Have you ever played against a player who cannot miss? No matter what hand they play they hit. Whenever they race they win, if they do not hit the flop they have AA or KK.
Well that was me last night. It was a crazy night. I showed up in level 2 and played quite a few hands early. I made somewhat of a weak call in a blind vs blind hand and got beat by a 10 kicker to my 9 kicker when we had the same pair. Then just before the break I made a loose call on a 7KQJ9 board for a lot of my chips. I was in the SB with Q10. There was no flush on board and I came out betting on the river after calling the turn. My opponent pretty much went all-in. I almost folded because the re-raise did not make sense to me. Why re-raise there if you are likely crushed or chopping. Either way I was happy for a split when my opponent showed J10.
I got to the final table with no chips. I had about 1900. The first hand I was UTG with AJ. With the blinds 70/140 I decided to fold. I didn't have enough chips to raise and I had too many to go all-in. I then stole blinds with QQ. So I was up around 2100.
I then pushed all-in with 1900 left and skippy insta-called. Yuck. I had ACQC. Thankfully skippy showed JJ. It was a race but the flop came down K108. Ok so I have 8 outs which is better than 6 but skippy has 2 of Jacks...woot woot J on the turn, skip misses the river.
I then misplayed a hand horribly. I was dealt J4 in the BB. The SB completed. I flop came J87. The SB came out betting. For some reason I put him on a 9. I decided just to call and keep the pot small. I really needed to push or fold I think. The turn came a 10 so if I went with my read the hand was over for me. The river was an A and the SB came out betting. It was such a no brainer fold but I called. That put me short and the blinds were moving up.
Then a funny funny hand. I pushed all-in with nothing to steal blinds at the 150/300 level. The next hand I get KDJD. Yes a real hand to push all-in with. I push and basically I have enough to cripple everyone. I expect folds around and someone says call. I was like gulp! I figured they had to have JJ or better to call because it was 2/3 of their stack. Strange it was AK which was a wierd call and I was crushed...oh well!!. So they run the flop. QJ7. Yes suckout here I come. Turn A. Oh crap. River J..woot woot woot! Then we realize wait a minute. We ran the wrong deck (the caller had the AS and it was on the board). Shit. Now I have to suckout again. Wait this is hard work. We run the other deck and the flop comes Jack high!! Yippee. Turn river are blanks and I survive.
I limped with KSJS and there 5 players in the hand. I turned the flush and didn't slow play it and didn't get paid either but there was a lot in the pot.
Then on my button a very silly hand. The BB had only 1200 left. The blinds were 150/300. Myself I always feel committed in the BB but never push to a raise unless I have a good hand. So I thought I could steal the blinds with a small raise. So I raise. Skippy instantly pushes all-in from the SB and the BB insta-calls. I had not looked at my cards as I was on the button and was blind stealing with any 2 cards so why look. Darn I have J4. And now its 1600 to call into 4500. Oops. I thought forever. I had about 4700. A call there would make sense but could really short me out. I figured only my J was live and skip had 2 overcards on that. So I mucked. Skip had A6 and the BB had K7. So a bad fold. Especially bad when I would have rivered a str8 and busted 2 players.
Down to 4 handed. After skip hit a set of aces on the river to bust Deadraws flopped set, deadraw was in the push zone. Deaddraw had only 4 x bb and he pushed from the button. I called with ACQC and he has J10 so I am not that far ahead until I flop the nut flush.
Onto 3 handed. I just kept getting hand after hand. I was hitting as well. Cojo was really trying to defend his BB. I laid down top pair to him when he went all-in. Then on 1062 flop he came out betting and re-raised him pretty much all my stack. He folded and I showed him A10. Next orbit I raise again. Flop QJ6 rainbow. He checks, I check. River 10. He checked, I bet a strange amount and he folded.
I then raised skip's BB holding A8. 3 handed A8 is about the minimum I need to call an all-in. Skip had about 1/4 the chips I did so I felt I could take a chance there. I raised half of skip's stack basically forcing him to push or fold. He pushed with Q9 which was ok for him. I obviously called. Flop was very good for me:
567. Turn was a Q so skip took a big lead. Of course river 4 and skip busts.
Then heads up with COJO. He asked to chop and I really wanted to play heads up. It had been at least 6-8 weeks before I won at wnp and I really wanted a win. Also I do not get a chance to play heads up with someone as good as COJO often. He wanted to play but needed to get home so we agreed to 10 hands. We played 6 I think and COJO got really short. I hit everything while we were heads up. The last hand he limped on my BB and I raised with A8. He pushed all-in and I called for just a little bit more. He had K2. Of course first card on the flop was an A.
So basically I was happy for the win but I realize I got very good cards at the end of the game. I did play well to win some pots early. One of them was a pot of almost 1000 in chips on a J5JK6 board with 3 diamonds on it. I was holding 32 of hearts and was playing the board. I got JJ, KK and AA once and QQ twice. Hard to lose...
I'm not going to play until probably Monday...
P.S. A little side note for DeadDraw. In my post where I called all my chips as a slight favourite I was not knocking his play at all. I misplayed the hand not realize he could afford to gamble and I could not. I had no idea how many chips he had and I never asked yet he like every great tourney player knew exactly what he had. But DeadDraw...I have a read on you! The hand I came over the top of you on, I had 5 high and committed half my stack on the re-raise based on my read....
