Turning Stone Version 1

Well it was out 10th anniversary on Friday. We usually make trips out to Vegas for special occasions but since we just went in April, we were looking to go away for just 1 night. I choose Turning Stone because it was kind of like Vegas as in it had a Casino and it was somewhere we could drive for one night. I paid $600 which included a beautiful suite in the lodge, dinner for 2 in a great restaurant, breakfast in bed, roses, chocolates, valet parking and a nice card.

My intentions on the trip were to do what my wife wanted to do. So last night that is what I did. We played Let it Ride, slot machines, then went for a great dinner. Back to the casino for more Let it Ride. Grand Total: -$700. I couldn't believe how crappy it felt to lose money although we did well at blackjack. We had lots of fun though and let's face it, your 10th anniversary only comes once and you can't take your money with you to the grave.

So onto today....zachjackmom informs me she wants to goto Bingo. We spoke to the waitress at dinner who gave us the rundown. You have to be there at 9am!! We didn't get to our room until 230am last night.

So off she went at 830 to the bingo and I went back to bed until around 10. I went to the bingo to see her and I was totally confused but worse, she was too. She found a friend who was helping her. We decided that fate was too tempting and we would split up. There was a $70+15+2 tourney (plus for $5 you got 500 more in chips). It started at 11am which was the perfect time. I registered and waited for it start.

You started with 4500 in chips with 20 min blinds starting at 25/50. Antes started in level 4. I think I touched every chip in play at my table. I seemed to be in every hand. The table was so tight noone called preflop raises. I took that opportunity to raise every 2nd hand and steal blinds. A very good but loose player was directly to my left. He said he played mostly 5-5 cash games but did not have patience for a tourney.

After 3 players limped on button, I raised 4 x bb with AQ. This player from the SB made it 1500 more (my raise was to 500). I mucked and he showed AA. I told everyone I mucked AK which I would have however with AQ it was an easy fold. 2 hands later I had AQs and I raised to 500 again. Same player came back over the top for 1500 more. I really thought about moving in here as I felt it was just a play. I decided to wait for a better spot and mucked and he showed me AKs.

I then had limpers into my bb and I was holding 102o. I checked and flop came KJ2 with two hearts. I decided to be out to represent something good. I got 2 callers and decided to give up on the hand except that a 7d hit the turn. I could not see this card doing anything for anyone so I fired the 2nd aggression bullet. The first caller insta-muck. My bet was 700 into a pot of about 1000. The last player in the hand raised to 1500. Now that I think about it, I am sure he was holding 8H9H. My instincts told me to push all-in as he could not possibly have KK, JJ. 77 would be strange to call on the flop. I decided to cut my losses and fold. A few hands later when I was co, I got JJ. An ep player who just moved to our table raised to 500. I wanted to re-raise but with only 3500 in chips, I decided to call/push on low flop. The flop came 842 with two clubs. My opponent bet pot and without hesitation I pushed all-in like an idiot. Buddy insta-called with KK. I am not sure how I get off this hand except to raise to 1500 and fold to an all-in. If buddy decides to flat call, I am still dead. Bad play by me period.

At this time its only noon and Ange is in a bingo until 4pm at least. The cash games just looked so darn juicy! I bought in for $100 in a 1/2 max 100 game.

Right away I looked down to my right and there is an oldtimer with about $1500 in front of him. I am like wtf is that? I was told my another player he was in a higher limit game which busted and they let him take his stack with him. I don't like this rule at all. Not to mention the guy was a class A jerk!

After sitting in the cash game for a few mins, I lost about $30 quickly. I made some money back in some forgetful hands and then I decided Fit. I am taking some chances.

A very weak player raised from mp to $10. There were 2 callers. I had 6C3C in the SB. I made a terrible call in retrospect but I did it because I felt I knew exactly what the original raiser had. I felt he had anywhere from 1010-KK. This pot already had $40 in it so I was getting the right price but I was calling for implied odds. The flop came 567 with 2 hearts and one club. Bad player bets $25. Well now I was certain with my read and I was pretty sure no matter what he had he was not laying it down. The only problem was the player behind me left to act. The player behind me flat called the 25. So now there is $125 in the pot. The turn is a 4H. So I make my hand but now the flush is there. My opponent checks his hand for a heart (yes he was that bad) and he pushes all-in for $65. Well now I had a tough decision. I had him covered by about $20. I decided it was time to risk the guy behind me didn't make his flush. I flat called and player behind me folded. Now to dodge a heart on the river. Except much to my suprise, my oppenent says to me "straight". I said yes, he shows 99 with no heart and the river is a black 2 and I scoop a very large pot.

I then started to play a very LAG game and tried to make everyone think I was a total nutball. I was raising every hand I entered. I re-raised with 79o in the BB and stole a $50 pot. I showed my 79 and said "hey that is a winner". I raised with 8D3D. The same bad player who I wrecked with my straight called from SB. The flop came A89 with one diamond. He checked to me so I checked. The turn was a 7D. He bet about 2/3 of the pot. I flat called. The river was an 8. He bet out 15 I made it 45. He folded and said he did not like his kicker. I said "neither do I" and I exposed the 3D.

The very next hand I get JJ and make my standard raise to $12. Old-time with a billion dollars in front of him makes it $40 to go. I figured he was making a play as his body language indicated that. I decided though that if I hit my set, I am doubling for sure if not my read would to be perfect as all my money would have to go in. I called.

The flop came 762 rainbow. I was pretty certain I was good but if I bet he was re-raising for sure. I checked, he bet $100 into a pot of about 90. I thought for a bit and mucked my JJ open. I could tell I was good by the look on his face but I just said to him "its your money anyway take my $40 and I will get it back".

I played some great poker for another two hours. I cashed out $400 for a $300 profit. In 4 hours I lost 3 showdowns. One of them I had 8 high and bet into my opponent and he flat called with trips. I was really in the zone for this cash game and would have loved to stay. I was also glad to profit after my horrible all-in during the tourney.

Next game monday night in the Den!!
