I actually won the first hand of the game last night with 77 on a total rag board. I won a few small pots and the had it happen again. There was a raise and re-raise on the button and I was in the SB with AA. I didn't think for 2 seconds, got all my chips in the middle and said don't crack 'em. I didn't care at that point and just wanted to win the hand preflop.
I then lost some chips on a button steal gone bad. To me these are never a bad thing because it makes people think you are raising from the button with nothing and get them to call you with weaker hands (in this case, I had nothing).
I then raised from the cutoff and told everyone it was a button steal. The board came T high and I had KK. After getting check raised, I had no choice but to go all-in and hope they didn't hit a set. They had top pair and after a K hit the turn, I was good. After this I flat called a raise with AsKs and had to fold on a really dirty A high board. (It had a Q, J and 3 hearts on it). That took too many chips that it should have. I then coast to the final table with a M just under 10.
The first hand of the final table I got AK UTG. I pushed all-in and everyone folded. The 2nd hand in the BB I got QQ, 3 limpers and I pushed and everyone folded. More waiting and waiting. Then on the button I got KK, I raised half my stack to 1200 (blinds were 200/400). I left myself 1300, now many people would feel obliged to call their stack with any 2 cards but Jules made a smart play in mu opinion and put me all-in. It did not work out well because I had KK but she knows I fold almost anything there. Normally I don't slow play there but I was on the button so I wanted to make it look like a normal button raise. So then I built a bit of a stack.
The next hand there was limps in front of me and I raised to steal dead money but got a call. It was checked to me and I took the pot. Then there was 2 all-ins in front of me. I had 12k with 600 in the pot and it was 2k to call to bust two people. I had A4s. I could not reasonable assume one of them did not have an ace so I had to fold although it was borderline. Turns out one had KJ and the other had 33 and an A hit the board. So my 4 was live making it a bad fold getting almost 4:1 on my money but I still think I would make it again.
Down to the bubble and I raised to 2200 from the button with ATo. The SB pushed for 1900 more. The BB started thinking about it. His exact words were "this is a premium hand". Well it had to be a big ace which kind of sucked for me. I said to myself no matter what, if he calls I am folding. I would still have the odds if he had a big ace because I would be getting great odds but I didn't want to be playing a big hand with AT. He folded, I called and he said he folded AQ. The SB had 44, so off to the races we went. I won the race on the turn when an Ace hit and the bubble broke.
We got down to 3 handed and I got into a real groove without any cards. I was stealing a lot of dead money and no one wanted to see a flop with me. Finally after my 10th raise, someone pushed all-in for a huge over bet. I had K2o and could not call. As normal I like to come back the next hand for a raise to force someone to see a flop with me and to show I am going to keep playing aggressively.
So on the button I raise again (then look at my cards). The BB flat called. I looked at my cards and I had Qs7s. The flop came 89T with 2 spades. The BB came out betting into me which was strange but a nice play. I really was unsure of what to do. I had so many outs yet if I pushed I don't think he was willing to fold even though I didn't think he was that strong. He looked willing to gamble. I decided to flat call which is normally a bad play but I took so long to decide. I missed the turn and he pushed all-in. I had to fold....he showed AJo, I think we were racing because neither Q or 7 were live....so onto the next hand...
I folded my BB to a raise and blinds went up. I still had around 11k but knew I had to slow down a bit. I limped in the sb with blinds 500/1000. I was dealt 6h7h. The BB checked and the flop came A27 with 2 hearts...again a monster flop. I wanted to be aggressive and bet out but then I thought if my opponent does not have an Ace they are pretty much folding and I just win a small spot. For some reason I got sneaky and checked. The BB bet half the pot which I was figuring either a 2 or a 7. I thought about pushing there but the pot was not big enough to make it worth racing at this point in case he had an ace. I flat called again and the turn was a 7. It felt kind of magical so I checked again planning to go all-in when he bet (I figured an ace has to bet stronger, a 2 or a flush draw checks). Well he min bet again which was the worst case scenario. It had to mean he had a 7. At this point I was beating 73,74 and 75 and that was it. But I had the flush draw. For sure now I cannot push because he instacalling (his reaction to the turn made it obvious what he had). The river was a black 5 which now meant I was only beating 2 possible hands he has. I figure if I check there he probably checks 73 or 74 because there are so many random hands that beat him that I might have flat called to the river with so I checked hoping to see a cheap showdown. He bet out 1700 into a pot of 6000. So it was 1700 into a pot of 7700. The problem was now for sure I knew his hand. The only thing I could hope for was he was betting 73 or 74, I could push and show him my 7 and if he had a bad kicker he might fold but probably not. There no chop out there at all. But I can't fold and decide I hate poker (LOL). I call he shows 78......DOH. I had about 100 outs on the river and missed...oh well. Next hand I am on the button and push with any 2....these 2 happen to be 85o. I had 4x bb. The bb called with K10o. I actually hit a str8 on the river but he had turned a flush.....
That was all..3rd place. I was happy again with my performance until those 2 horrible hands where I was calling off way too many chips....Its difficult sometimes when you are playing against players who you know are not going to fold and you have a great hand to push with but that is certainly part of the game especially lately. Off to WNP on Wednesday....
