Prescott $300 Buy-In

So I played the $300 buy-in at Prescott yesterday and I thought I would
share some interesting hands. There was 34 people, 15,000 in chips with 30
minute blinds and a relatively good structure (starting at 25-50). Congrats
to Jinny who ended up 3 way chopping for 1st and paying me half my buy-in
back.

Here goes....

My 1st table was good. I had 3-4 players I played with before in Prescott
plus Jinny. Since we were 8 I had some good information on most players.

1st hand-

Blinds were 25/50 I am dealt 7c8c. I limp in mp and there are 3-4 limpers
plus the blinds. The flop came 568 rainbow which was about the best flop I
could hope for. I lead out for 200 and a late position player flat called
me. He was one of the random players who I did not know but he actually
limped from ep in one of the first hands and ended up betting an ace high
board all the way to the river with KK and he lost to the SB who had A2.
When he flatted me, I automatically decided I was probably behind unless my
money card hit. The turn was a 9 giving me a str8. I decided since there
were no draws on the board, I would risk giving my opponent a free card and
I checked to him. He bet 200 into a pot of about 600. I raised 500 more
and he min raised me back. I was really confused at this point but decided
I better slow down just in case he had 7T. I flatted the 3 bet and the
river brought a 4. So now the board 45689 all rainbow. I chopped with 20
hands and lose to one. Even an inexperienced player has to see the
straight, I thought anyway. I checked the river again to show weakness and
he bet 2000. At this point I was confused....I could raise 5000 more but it
seemed like opening the betting even more didn't make sense in case he had
7T so I threw out 2000 and said "do you have 7T"? He proudly turned over
the worst played set of 6s I have ever seen and I scooped a nice size pot.

The next significant hand I played at the first table, blinds were still
25/50. 3 limpers to my button and I have 5s3s. I raised to 150 and
everyone called. Again I hit a great flop 456 rainbow. It checked all the
way to me. I decided that even though I probably have the best hand I was
going to check to improve and keep the pot small. The turn was a 3 and it
put 2 clubs up. The same guy with the 6s bet out 500. I flat called having
no clue if he had aces or a straight. The river was a 9c and he checked to
me. At that point I was hoping just to check and win the pot and he turned
over A7 os for a straight. He didn't see the flush and was hoping to check
raise me.

Before our table broke I really didn't play many hands. I was dealt KK
twice, folding it once on an ace high flop and then winning a small pot on a
low flop.

At the new table it was very aggressive and I did not play many hands. A
lot of time had went by though and I really had not built a stack sitting
around 16k. I was not too worried though as the blinds moved very slow.

The next significant hand was at the new table. There was a player who was
well known around Prescott for being crazy aggressive. I was really
targeting him for a big hand. I was sitting around 15k and in the sib with
T7os. It was limped 3 ways to me. Blinds were 200/400. The flop came 569
rainbow. I love these kinds of flops with a hand like 7T because if the
money card hits (an .Cool, I have the nuts and many players will die with a
7 in their hand. It checked all the way to the aggressive player and he bet
400 into a pot of about 2000. A late position player called and I called as
well the BB called. The turn was a 3 putting all 4 suits on the board. Now
my hand improved slightly. It checked the aggressive player who now bet
2500. It folded to me and I put so much thought into what to do. I finally
decided to call because to me, I felt like he would shove all-in if I hit on
the river which meant I was spending 2500 to make 15000 . I finally made
the call and the river was an .8. I nearly jumped out of chair which was
not good. I wanted to check to him but before I could, he already had all
his chips in the middle. So I said, its not your turn, its mine. I was
going to bet, but I really didn't want to take his bluff away so I thought
for a bit and checked. He put me all-in and I instacalled with the nuts. Of
course no one at the table could figure how I called 2500 for an 8, but I
told them I was sure he would shove on the river. By the way he had 78 for
a flopped straight...lol.

I now had around 29k. I lost a few chips missing some flops and came back
with 27k at the 300/600 level. I was still playing pretty tight when I got
AsQs in the BB. The button player seemed to know what he was doing except
he kept min-raising my BB which I hate. I called once with 22 and missed
and checked folded. With the AsQs, I was sure I had the best hand. He min
raised to 1200 and I quickly made it 3600. He flat called which scared me
but I decided I was playing this hand hard. The flop came 932 with 2
hearts. I quickly bet 6k and he thought for a while and folded. Someone
said I must had QQ so I tried to show a Q but turned over the Ace by
accident.

The next orbit there was a raise to 1800 from UTG and a call from a super
LAG player in UTG +1. I am in the SB and look down at AA. There had been
so little 3 betting that I had seen but I figured I would hope that one had
a big pp they could not lay down and I would try to play a big pot. I was
also out of position against 2 players who clearly had not folded much. I
made it 5000 more and the both called creating a pot of almost 20k. I only
had 20k left at this point. The flop came 6s9s9c and I really did not know
what to do at this point being first to act. Then I thought there is no way
one could have a 9 in their hand unless they flopped quads which is unlikely
and really I cant fold if I bet anyway and I had the As so I just went
allin. Surprisingly one folded a spade draw and the other folded 78 and of
course they had to rabbit hunt and they both would have hit. I now had over
40k.

The next significant hand was against the same 2 players. Same UTG raise to
1800, UTG + 1 calls and I am in the BB with QsTs. Really when I have chips,
I like a hand like QTs but this hand got a little strange. The flop came
3h6cTh. I decided to lead out to see if I could just take the pot down. I
bet out 4500. The UTG player called leaving herself only around 8500. UTG
+ 1 also called. The turn was a 9c. At this point, I really was unsure of
what to do and I was out of position. To get more information I decided to
check, UTG checked and UTG +1 bet out 10k. I really went into the tank at
this point. For some reason I felt I was beating UTG + 1 but had no idea
what UTG player was doing. I was so close to shoving all-in and trying to
take a big pot down. I decided to pick a better spot and fold. UTG thought
for a while and called with KhJh and UTG + 1 showed JTos so I was ahead
however the river was a Q and gave UTG a straight so I only make anything
there if UTG + 1 would have called my all-in. He said he would have which
is funny since he hand JT but it was a missed opportunity.

I then was down around 33k when I shoved all-in to a raise and a re-raise.
The re-raiser left himself about 8k so it was about half my stack but I had
AhKh and felt I might have the best hand if not I would race. The re-raiser
called and he had AcKc. Someone else at the table folded AdKd and the flop
was all diamonds.

I then was moved my 3rd and final table. Nothing happened there for a
while. I was staying around 33k and then the following hand came up.

Down to 14 now, we are 7 handed. Blinds are 700/1400 and I raised to 3900
from the SB with A8os. The BB calls (which was weird because she was so
tight) and the flop comes 842 rainbow. I bet out 5500 and she flat called.
The turn was a 7. I thought for a while at this point because down to 23k,
I just could not make another bet that didn't commit me. I decided that I
was beat and I checked, She instantly got ready to fire out a bet and before
she could I mucked my cards and she proudly showed Aces. I was happy at my
play but not happy about being at 22k with blinds 700/1400 and we are now 6
handed with the final table far away.

To the last hand I busted on. I was pretty upset with myself for this hand
until I chatted with Adam on MSN. He said he liked the way I played it. It
seemed like every pot was a limped pot but no one folded to any raises. I
was trying to play really careful to conserve chips. I was in the SB with
55, there were 3 limpers in front of me. I completed (I really thought of
shoving at this point but was so worried someone would call with 66 or 77
because that was just the kind of game it was). The flop came 467 rainbow.
I really wanted to lead at this flop but again, if someone called I had no
idea what I was going to do on the turn. I made the quick decision to see
who bet at it and make a move if it was the right player. I checked and it
checked all the way around the last player to act who was very aggressive
and he bet 5k. Really I did not take a lot of time to think about what to
do but I thought about it and though he only has around 20k left himself.
If I shove, really he should be very big to call. I also thought I might
even be ahead because he is the type of player who would bet complete air
there. I just didn't feel calling was an option. Also being in the BB he
had to put me on something big but I figured just in case I had 8 outs to
the nuts and likely 2 more outs to make the best hand. So basically 25-40%
chance he folds, 15% chance he calls with a weaker hand (A5, K5, 45 or 33)
and a 50% chance or so he calls but I still have 10 outs. I knew I was
going to have to pick a spot to gamble to win so I shoved and he thought for
about 10 seconds and called with 78os for top pair and a gutshot. I
realized after that he really didn't put much thought into his play or what
he was doing or even what I could have because he actually said "oh no I
need one of your 5s". After watching him for a bit after, he called off
most of his stack on a flush draw vs. two pair. The guy loved his draws. I
do not think it changes much though because he might have 89 or 9T both of
which I was marginally ahead of.
