The Last Night

Well it finally happened. I finally hit a run of cards and was a wrecking ball at the 1/2 table. The only thing that stopped me was an 11:30 departure time.

Some details on yesterday:

First session was from 11:30 to 1:30pm. I broke even on the session but I was playing well and I had everyone at the table thinking I was a total nutbar. I was $90 down on the first hand after a cool kid from ottawa no less hit 2 pair with 63o on a Q63 flop. I had KQ and really was not sure why I was calling his bets without raising. Turned out to be cheaper. Cool kid though who actually had been on pokerpoker a few days before. I had to battle to get back to even and then leave.

The most interesting hand was against a girl who just moved to vegas from florida. She raised to $10 from the cutoff. Button called and I called from the sb with JQo. The flop came A108 rainbow. I put her on AK and I felt that I was calling any flop bet as a king on the turn would certainly break her. The turn was a 9. All 4 suits on the board so I was gold. I told her I put her on AK and I had 66 so I was calling to hit my set to bust her. She had bet $20 on the flop and then $35 on the turn. The river was a 6 and I quickly push a $100 stack of chips in the middle of the pot. She doesn't even think for 2 seconds and shows me AA and mucks. I wouldn't show her my cards but told her it was the best laydown I have ever seen and she was crushed.

That got me back to even.

Then it happened....after checking out and finding out that MGM covered all our meals and gave us a free night we decided to play until we needed to leave so I had from about 5 to 930 to play. When I first sat down it was all locals at the table except for one donkey tourist who was horrible. On my first hand I posted I had 89o. The button raised to 10 and there were 4 callers. I called. Flop came Q67. Checked all the way to the button. She bet 15. I called. Turn was a 5. Boom the nuts. I bet out $25 and she folded.

I then hit a set 2s and took rich tourist for $70. Then hit a set of 8s on all diamond flop. I bet out because of the diamonds. $20 into a $15 pot. One caller. Rich tourist made it $60. I pushed allin. He flipped over his cards and showed QD9S (flop was 9 high). I told him "you should call sir, I don't have a diamond". Frankly when I saw his hand I knew it didn't matter, I knew he was calling no matter what I said. He called and the turn/river were 2 low black cards. He actually thought he won the pot because he had 9s until the dealer showed him 3 8s. So now I'm up to $250 (started at 100) and felt like I could really kick some butt.

I hit a few more sets along the way and got AA 3 times in about 20 mins (I only got them once the whole trip in 30 hours before that). The last hand I called a $10 raise on the button with 6C4C. The flop came A66 with 2 spades. I was in the hand with 2 locals but felt good because I was in position. Original raiser bet $25. Cutoff called. I flat called. (I had re-raised with all my sets before). The turn was a 2H. About the most unscary card I could see. It checked to me and I quickly bet $65. The original raiser folded but the cutoff called. The river was a 7D. I was ready to lay my hand down and he checked. At that point I was sure he missed his flush and a river bet would be stupid so I checked. I was leaving anyway so I showed my cards and he mucked. I asked him if he was on the flush draw and he said yes. So huge pot, I cash out for a $575 profit and really felt if I stayed I could break $1000 but had to catch my plane.

In the meantime Ange was crushing Let it Ride. She was up about $1500 on the day so we went home with pretty close to the same cash we went with.

After an all night flight, we are waiting for our connecting flight to ottawa in toronto.

My final tally for the trip:

MGM Grand (1 SNG and cash games) : 27.5 hours: +500

Luxor (cash game): 2.5 hours: + 85

Wynn (tourney): 6 hours -330

Not a great showing but I had a blast....can't wait to do it again.
