Well Dr. Sparks mentioned my blog in his and I feel like I need to post in it more often. I really only got it for Vegas but I think I may start writing in it.
I was a last minute addition to another tourney last night - WNP. I find it hard to commit to a game on Wednesdays as Zach has soccer and I am never sure when I am getting home.
The game that started off as the greatest poker game in the city has had a few rough weeks. Noone can put their finger on it but we just haven't been able to get people out lately. Last night we ended up with 10 peeps. There was 3 totally new people, 6 of us that play together all the time and another play who had been out but not frequently.
We played 5 handed early on and I had 2 of the new players on my left. I hit some big hands early and had done some nice accumulation. I then hit a huge draw and missed but sensed weakness in my oppenent so I bet 3/4 pot on the river and he called me with A8 high.
A few missed flops etc I was down to 600 in chips. I then hit a 9 outer after misreading my opponent but committing too much to fold. It seemed like a sick beat for him because the 9 outer became a 3 outer after the turn. The next hand I got aces in the sb and was fortunate to have the button try to steal and then hit top pair so I doubled up. Woot woot, I had chips and I still think I am a very tough player to play against when I have a stack.
I made a huge bluff against Joey (lee carvello on pokerpoker). I raised from the button to 160 with the blinds 30/60. Joey re-raised to 500. I only had 5s7s but something told me Joey didn't want to see a flop so I played my gutt and went all-in. Joey thought forever and folded 99. I showed my bluff to the table and the new players laughed their asses off.
Joey and I ended up heads up and we played for awhile with capped blinds that were pretty low so we had some good poker. I had Joey pretty short but he was only one double up away from being around even again. I then called a raise with 6H7H. The flop came J44 with one heart. Acting first I instantly pushed all-in thinking Joey would need to be huge to call. He instacalled with AJ (yuck). I pulled the monster running flush suckout and took WNP down. Not proud of the suckout though but I know Joey realizes these things happen.
Tonight is burrhead's first game in the donkey den....
